The Toco Toucan is a species from the Ramphastos genus. The Toco Toucan is the biggest species of toucan. Its natural distribution is the northeast and central part of South America.

Appearance[]

It has a striking plumage, black body, black throat and a blue eye-ring. The most outstanding feature is as always its big yellow/orange bill with a black termination.

The Toco Toucan weighs from 1.1 to 2 lbs (500 g to 876 g) and its body measures 55 cm to 63 cm (21 in to 25 in) and its bill measures around 20 cm (8 in).

Behavior[]

They are commonly seen flying across rivers or perching in treetops as they feed. They usually feed in the canopy, individually or in small groups, but also forage on the ground, especially for fallen fruit.

Diet[]

The Toco Toucan eats fruits generally, but it may eat other bird's eggs, Insects , Frogs and Small Reptiles.

Lifespan[]

The Toco Toucan lives around 15 years.
