The Sumatran Elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) is a subspecies of the Asian Elephant that is native to Sumatra.

Characteristics[]

The Sumatran elephant can grow up to 2 to 3.2 meters (6.6 to 10.5 feet) at the shoulder height. They can weigh up to 2,000 to 4,000 kilograms (4,400 to 8,800 lbs). Their skin color is lighter with less depigmentation than the Sri Lankan Elephant and Indian Elephant.
