The Sora (Porzana carolina) is a small waterbird of the family Rallidae, sometimes also known as the sora rail or sora crake. The genus's name Porzana is from the Venetian term for small rails, and carolina refers to the former British colony of Carolina. The word "sora" comes from an unknown and probably unidentified Indigenous Native American language presumably from the Carolinas.
