The second season of Animals was renewed by Turner. A Turner Broadcasting System press release on August 16, 2013 announced that a second season had been ordered.

Bradley Zweig says that the series has been renewed for a second season in February but that he couldn't mention it before it was made official.

He also said that he and Sarah and Dominic started production of Season 2 in April.

According to series writer, Bradley Zweig, there will be four 22-minute episodes forming one long story arc along with 36 11-minute stand alone episodes that also loosely related to the arc.

This season will also introduce a new villain who will rival Lion as the greatest in the jungle. The silhouette of this character can be seen in the promotional photo on the right.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2014, it was revealed that the villain's name was Noil, who is basically "a better Lion than Lion".

It was also confirmed that there will be back stories about the characters. Season 2 will pick up where "The Tourist" left off where Noil was seen laughing in the animatic. The Season Two Premiere will be entitled "The Night".

According to San Diego Comic Con 2014, Season 2 will start with Lion falling desperately low as the "greatest in the jungle" due to him chasing Tiger around for the majority of his appearances in Season 1 and the majority of Season 2 will be about Lion trying to climb back up as the greatest in the jungle and Kitten encouraging him to do it but he's still secretly on the side of still trying to destroy Tiger.

Season 2 consists of 17 full episodes, which are made up of 36 with 11-minutes episodes and 4 22-minute episodes.

On July 5, 2014, it was confirmed that Dominic Pitt (The storyboard artist) will not be working on Season 2. It was eventually revealed that writers, Frank Angones and Amy J. Higgins will be acting as story editors for Season 2. Bradley Zweig will still be a writer this season.
