[[File:P1250806.JPG|thumb|220x220px]]The penguin exhibit at long Island Aquarium is an 800-square foot exhibit that provides both land and water features for the birds, as well as hutches in the back wall for shelter, nesting and breeding.

It features a 50 person stadium that accompanies the exhibit to be used for public lectures, feeds and educational programs.

Striations on penguin pavilions walls represent the Long Island aquifer or an underground bed or layer of earth, gravel or porous stone that yields water.

A pop up window on the exhibit is 3 feet in diameter and 18 inches in height its called birds eye to eye view.

The penguins arrived in April 2004, they were captive-bred in South Africa and imported illegally into the US. The US Fish and Wildlife Service reached out to the Aquarium to provide the birds with a new home. When they arrived they were first held in the gift shop storage area that was gutted and 3 swim tanks along with a filtration system were added all in 3 days to accommodate the penguins until their exhibit was completed.

Construction on Penguin Pavilion began on January 5th, 2005. The exhibit opened that same year.

The exhibit is home to South African penguins. These type of penguins are more warm weather penguins so if it gets to cold they need to bring the penguins inside.

The first born penguin was Pam, born in 2009, was the aquarium’s first successful hatching and since then the aquarium has had many more successful hatchings.

The penguins were originally named after Seinfeld characters. Now they are named after popular tv shows. According to Joe, the curator, the tv show has to be good in order for the penguin to be named after one of its characters.

The penguins wear colored bands on them so that the employees can distinguish each penguin from one another.

A penguin encounter is offered to guest who wish to go inside the exhibit and meet a penguin. The aquarium can accommodate up to 9 people per encounter. The aquarium usually uses the “babies” that were born there for the encounter.

You can watch the penguins live on YouTube provided by Hampton.com
