Pachylemur is an extinct genus of Varecia and this giant lemur more closely related to the ruffed lemurs.
Evolutionary history[]
The Pachylemur was similar more robust than the today's ruffed lemurs and their teeth have a close relation. In 1953 William Charles Osman Hill first described the two skulls Pachylemur insignis and Pachylemur jullyi (also called Lemur insignis and Lemur jullyi).
Due to their morphological similarities, the Pachylemur is also called the giant ruffed lemur.
