The Hercules Beetle is a species from the Dynastes genus.

Appearance[]

The most prominent feature of a male Hercules Beetle is its large horn-like pincers that protrudes from its forehead, whereas the females don't have any but grow to be larger than the males. Strangely, those pincers can grow larger than its body. They also use these pincers to battle with other males. They are named 'Hercules' because they, supposedly, the strongest creature on earth despite its size, able to carry 850 times its own body weight.

Behavior[]

Males are really aggressive toward each other when they are fighting for the attention of females. Their pincers are used in mating rituals. Males fight with each other, using the pincers to pick up and slam the opponent onto the ground. Male with bigger pincers has a better chance to win and to mate with female.

Diet[]

The Hercules Beetle diets on decaying wood, fruit, and leaves.

Lifespan[]

It can live up to 3-5 months.
