The Florida black wolf (Canis lupus floridanus), also known as the Florida wolf and the black wolf, was a medium-sized subspecies of the gray wolf, (Canis lupus), though this has been contested in recent years, that lived in Florida. This subspecies became extinct in 1908 because there was a bounty put out on them and when humans arrived, they wiped them out. The other reason for the wolves extinction is because it has been started to kill cattle and were seen as a threat, and so they were hunted to extinction.

Possible sightings[]

In 1934, US Wildlife and Fishing collected photo of a black wolf roaming around Florida making it possible that it is not extinct.
