Extinct in the Wild is a conservation status assigned to species for the only known living members of which are being kept in captivity or as a naturalized population outside its historic range. There have been attempts to reintroduce species that are extinct in the wild, however, this is hindered by the lack of survival techniques of the species, as life in captivity may mean they need to re-learn survival techniques as a species before they can be reintroduced. What this means is that genetics of the species is saved, but their natural behaviour may be lost.
