The Eurasian Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) is a very small insectivorous bird, and the only member of the wren family Troglodytidae found in Europe, Asia and North Africa in Anglophone Europe. The word "wren" comes from Middle English wrenna which comes from Old English wrenna which is descended from Proto-Germanic *wrandijô meaning "wren" which is of unknown origin. It is probably of a substrate origin. It is commonly known simply as the wren.
