The Eurasian Beaver is a species from the Castor genus. The word "beaver" comes from Middle English bever which is from Old English beofor which is descended from Proto-Germanic *bebruz which makes beaver cognate with German Biber, Dutch bever and Swedish bjur. They all ultimately stem from Proto-Indo-European *bʰébʰrus meaning "beaver". It is widespread throughout Eurasia.
