Appearance[]
The Common Octopus is a boneless sea creature with eight long "arms" that are called tentacles. Each of the tentacles are covered in suction cups so that they are able to catch and hold on to their prey and attach themselves to rocks. Their eyes are similar to those of humans but their mouth is located under their body and it is very beak-like.
The smallest known Octopus is 1 in (2.5 cm) across and the largest Octopus is 20 ft (6 m) from one tip of a tentacle to another.
Behaviour[]
Octopi are carnivores but they are also hunted by other animals. As a defense against these animals, they do a variety of things to protect themselves. One of the things that they do is squirt ink out of their body at their predators, the ink will either temporarily blind the predator so the Octopus can escape, or it will take the shape of the Octopus and trick the predator into chasing the ink blob instead of the actual Octopus. Another thing that Octopi may do is change color. They do this to either startle their enemies or camouflage themselves into their backround.

Lifespan[]
The lifespan of an Octopus is fairly short being at only three to four years. Some female Octopi will die after their eggs hatch. The reason for this is because when a female Octopi becomes impregnated, she finds a den and lays her eggs there. She doesn't leave these eggs for even a second until they hatch and after they do, she dies of starvation for not having food for that long.
