Chirodectes maculatus photo captures from the lost 1997 original video. On December 26, 2021, a sea diver with 'Scuba Ventures - Kavieng' recorded the first publicized video of Chirodectes and posted it on social media. It was noticed near Papua New Guinea and was described to be "...a bit bigger than a soccer ball and are quite fast swimming"!
Chirodectes Maculatus are related to the Box jellyfish, or sea wasp.
They belong to the Chirodropidae family, and are in the Cubozoa class. Chirodectes Maculatus go in the Animalia kingdom. Their genus is Chirodectes.
