Calico Cat

A calico cat is a domestic cat of any breed with a tri-color coat. The calico cat is most commonly thought of as being 25% to 75% white with large orange and black patches; however, they may have other colors in their patterns. Calicoes are almost exclusively female except under rare genetic conditions.

A calico cat isn't a specific type of breed — in fact, they can be any domestic cat breed with a tri-color coat; typically black, orange, and white. The white can be 25-75% of their fur. However, variations including cream, blue-black, brown, and reddish-orange can also be found in calico cat coats.

Characteristics[]

They are said, for example, to have sweet, endearing personalities. The Calico cat's disposition is also considered warm-hearted, affectionate, and intelligent. Many Calico breeds get along well with children and other pets to0. The Calico personality is also thought to be quirky.

lifespan[]

12 to 16 years

Health and LifespanWhile the rare male calico may encounter some health issues and have shorter life expectancies, female calico cats are just as healthy as cats with other coat patterns, with an average lifespan of 12 to 16 years. The average lifespan of calico cats is 12 to 16 years.

Behaviour[]

Their personalities are equally interesting; they are known for their sass and spunk, but they are also loving and loyal companions for owners of all ages. Interestingly, hard-to-find calicoes are almost all female, and the extremely rare male—one out of every 3,000 calicoes—is always sterile so they can't breed.

Diet[]

They eat the same kinds of food that other cats eat. I always suggest using a good quality cat food from a pet supply store such as Felidae, Eagle Cat, Blue Buffalo Cat, Chicken Soup for the Catlover or one of the many other good quality foods available now for cats.

Breeding[]

Can not be bred because males are sterile.
Males are rare and prone to health problems.
Might be hard to find a calico locally.

Intelligence[]

On the flip side, they're also said to be smart, spunky, and notoriously independent with a proclivity for quirky traits and behaviors. As an example of quirky, I can tell you that my Calico cat is crazy for water.

Playful behavior[]

They are said to have a sassy but loving temperament, enjoying active play as much as purring in their owners' laps. Some Calico cats have even been credited with intelligent acts of bravery, like saving their human and animal families or their entire litter of kittens from a burning building.
